    International Zine Month 2018 – Day 23 – A Whole New Distro

Hello and happy Tuesday, zine friends! It is Tuesday, right? Haha. I’ve been deep into transaction fees, listing fees, processing fees, and all sorts in various online marketplaces.

I am happy to say that I was able to jump in on today’s prompt (though to be honest I did a couple days early) and now have something lovely to look forward to after all the work.

    Yesterday’s prompt:

Order zines from a different zine distro

I ordered from Natalie Michelle Watson – https://www.nataliemichellewatson.com

Technically it’s a shop rather than a distro, but I’m still counting it. I have been looking forward to checking out Natalie’s ‘Drongo’ since I first saw it. Now it’s just a few days away! Eee!

Have you ordered from a different distro (or shop!)? Let me know where you’ve ordered from!

International Zine Month 2017 Day 18: A Whole New Distro

Order from a different zine distro than normal

Hello, zine friends! It’s time to get those monies out to order some zines from a distro different to normal. It’s been a while since I’ve ordered from a distro, so I don’t really know if I have a ‘normal’ as such. Sticky is my usual for in-person…

Anyway, I’m ordering from Sober Bob Monthly!

Technically I think Sober Bob’s is a zine shop rather than a distro, but if I’m going to break my ‘no spending until after the move’ rule, then I’m going to go for a little somethin’ somethin’ that I’ve had my eye on for a while. That covers a lot of things, but Sober Bob also has a few things on sale as well, so it’s my lucky day.

    What are you ordering today?

International Zine Month 2017 Day 3: Zine Distro Appreciation Day

International Zine Month 2017 Day 3: Zine Distro Appreciation Day

Hello zine friends! It’s International Zine Month, which means I’ve shouting my zine love from the rooftops even more often than usual for the entire month.

Zine Distro Appreciation Day! Order from a zine distro

Zine distros! Those beautiful places that gather ziney goodness and organise it for easy purchase by the masses. They give us a chance to get our cut and pasted words out to people we will probably never meet. Thank you distros!

So today’s task is to order from a distro. I would love to do that and shout out about the zinelicious goodies headed to my post box… but I have a rather spendy neuro appointment coming up. Until I know if I need more than one of those spendy appointments to get my noggin’ sorted, I’m afraid I’m not going to be able to purchase any zines.

Are you in a similar financial position? Well we can still show our distro love!

I would love to show my distro appreciation by shouting out to my closest zine distro: Sticky Institute! I visit them every time I’m in the Melbs CBD, and they stock my zines as well!

I’m also going to show my distro appreciation by shouting out to the distro I would like to order from next: Pen Fight Distro! They are located in the UK and have a unicorn on their logo. Does it get any better?

If you love your local – or not so local – zine distro, please leave a link in the comments! I love looking through the listings of new-to-me distros.

Until tomorrow, keep those glue sticks out and scissors cutting.

    Happy International Zine Month – Days 22, 23, 24

    And away we go!

Day 22: Send your zine to a zine library

I think I’m out of sync with the universe. I’m either ahead or running behind…

    Zine Library Invite

About a week ago, I was approached via Etsy about donating one of my zines to a new zine library. They happened to have great timing, as I had both a zine to send and a stamp to spare to get it to them. So while I didn’t take a picture (*cough*slacker*cough*) of it, I’ve already sent one off!

However, if you are a zine librarian looking to expand your collection, let me know! I’d love to give you a shout out here.

PS. I realised today that when I previously mentioned zine libraries, I made the assumption that you know what I’m talking about. It is pretty self-explanatory, but just in case, zine libraries are large (usually) collections of zines that aren’t collected elsewhere. Unlike a distro, zine libraries don’t sell zines.

Day 23: Make a one page zine.

Rain delay. 😛 Postponed for the moment because I still haven’t learned my lesson and actually looked ahead. Oopsie.

Day 24: Teach yourself a new zine skill

Unless you’re new here (hello!), you know how much I love to blather on about pretty much anything and everything zine related. So you can take that little step further and imagine how much I hate to say that, well, this task has me stumped.

    New zine skill.

I don’t know what to do.

I don’t mean to imply that I am some utterly awesome zine master who knows all of the things about all of the things (because I very much do not). Still, I’m really not sure what to do here.

So I put it into your hands, dear readers. Is there anything you would like to see? Anything I can explain or take a picture of or something?

    Happy International Zine Month! Days 2, 3, & 4

Catching up! I am embracing my lateness and posting up three zine things at once. Mostly because my life is unexciting in a way that makes combining these things make sense.

Side note: Happy 4th of July to US people.

    On to the things!

    Day 2

    Re-read your favourite zines.

I was on the road on day two, but I did bring zines with me. Some favourites-to-be (at the time of reading them). (Switching back and forth in time tense is haaard.) Had I been home to read some favourites, you know they would have been on the 100th Zine Review Celebration Awards: All You Need is Zine Love list.

    Day 3

Zine Distro appreciation day! Order from a zine distro.

To know Sticky Institute is to love Sticky Institute. <3 I appreciate the big fuzzy love hearts out of that place. Especially since this woman (I apologise if you I identify otherwise) with highlighter blue hair was totally cool and supportive when I started going into panic mode during one visit.

You can definitely order from Sticky by clicking this link or go onto Etsy to find heaps of zines there. This day is a tiny smiggle of a cop out because AusPost shipping stinks, and I’ve been saving my dollars for an in-person visit soon.

    Day 4

Read a zine from a country other than your own.

That’s really not hard to do. While I am able to get more zines locally now, I’d say a good 75% – 85% of my entire zine collection is not from Australia.

Because I read so many international zines, and because it’s been a very rough time emotionally (nothing wrong – I’m a SAD bipolar bear is all), I’m not going to stress myself by making myself read a zine on top of the other things I’d like to accomplish today. I always want zines to be what I want to read and engage with rather than ever being something I *have* to do.

In the end, it probably doesn’t matter either way to anyone but me, but there it is anyway. 🙂

    More to come!
